The AHFA has spoken for American furniture since 1905: manufacturers, importers, distributors and suppliers, headquartered in High Point. Here's what it does, who's in it, and why Furniture Connect joined as a Solution Partner.

If you make or sell furniture for the US market, a surprising amount of your working week is shaped by an organisation you may never have dealt with directly. The tip-over standard your compliance team works to, the formaldehyde rules your suppliers certify against, the industry statistics in your board deck — behind a striking amount of it sits the American Home Furnishings Alliance. This post explains what the AHFA actually is, why it carries the weight it does — and why Furniture Connect joined it rather than selling into American furniture from the outside.
The AHFA is the national trade association for the US home furnishings industry, headquartered in High Point, North Carolina — the same town the industry converges on twice a year for High Point Market. Its membership runs to more than 400 companies: manufacturers, importers, distributors and the suppliers who serve them.
It is also one of the oldest bodies in the category. Its story starts in 1905, when 14 Southern furniture manufacturers organised what became the Southern Furniture Manufacturers Association. A century of mergers and renamings later, it became the American Home Furnishings Alliance in 2004, widening its doors to the full cross-section of companies that put furniture into American homes.
That longevity matters. An alliance that has survived every reinvention of the industry since 1905 — from regional workshops to global supply chains — is not a directory selling logo placements. It is the industry's institutional memory.
Like the British Furniture Association in the UK, the AHFA earns its position by doing real work on the sector's behalf:
To an American furniture business, the AHFA logo signals the same thing the BFA's does to a British one: this company is inside the industry's trusted circle, not shouting at it from outside.
Furniture Connect is now an AHFA member — part of its Solution Partners community, the division for companies that supply products and services to the home furnishings industry.
The reasoning is the same as it was with the BFA. Plenty of AI companies promise furniture businesses better imagery or cleaner product data without ever learning how the industry actually works — how a collection moves from supplier spreadsheet to showroom to channel listing, and where the weeks disappear along the way. We would rather do that learning where the industry does its own: inside its trade bodies, alongside the manufacturers, importers and retailers we build for.
Joining the AHFA connects Furniture Connect to the American side of that conversation — the regulatory briefings, the member network, the introductions that happen inside a trusted circle rather than a cold inbox. Together with our BFA Supply Membership in the UK, it means we sit inside the industry's own institutions on both sides of the Atlantic.
For a buyer weighing up an AI platform, that changes the question. Instead of asking whether a vendor will still understand furniture in a year, you can ask a simpler one: is this company part of the industry, or just selling into it? Our answer is on the membership rolls.
The membership isn't a badge for its own sake. It keeps the furniture-purpose-built studio and product information system we build grounded in the same issues AHFA members deal with every week — compliance data that has to be right, product information that has to survive the journey from factory to listing, imagery that has to be trusted by real buyers.
The fastest way to understand why we keep joining the industry's institutions instead of standing outside them is to watch the platform work on your actual products. Request a demo and we'll show you catalogue-grade imagery and sales-ready product data built around your real SKUs.
