Configurable Furniture Data Quality Checklist

A parent product can look complete while individual configurations resolve to the wrong measurements, lack an approved price or use imagery that depicts another finish. Checking populated fields on the parent alone will not reveal those gaps.

This checklist tests whether each sellable configuration is ready for a particular use. It checks correctness, applicability and traceability rather than insisting that every fact or image must sit directly on the variant record.

Define the release before running the checklist

Record the destination, market, sales route and intended release date first. Then agree which requirements apply.

A pass means the configuration is ready for that defined use. It does not mean the same configuration is ready for every retailer, marketplace, quote workflow or country. An internal draft quote and a live retailer listing can have different release requirements.

The range owner should run the checklist before release and whenever a relevant fact changes: a new material, revised measurement, price update, discontinued option or destination requirement.

How to record the result

Each applicable requirement is either confirmed or not confirmed. Unknown or unchecked information does not pass.

If a requirement genuinely does not apply, record why and who made that decision rather than leaving the field blank. This keeps the release decision clear without forcing unnecessary swatches, GTINs or certificates onto every product.

Record approved for submission separately from live output verified. The second result can only be confirmed after publication.

Identity and structure

• The SKU identifies the intended sellable item without an unintended duplicate.
• The configuration belongs to the correct parent product or product family.
• The complete option combination is approved, not merely possible in the data.
• Internal SKU, supplier article number and GTIN remain distinguishable where they are used.
• Retired or blocked choices cannot be mistaken for currently sellable ones.

One valid SKU does not compensate for an unapproved fabric-and-frame combination. Confirm each requirement separately.

Product facts

• The configuration resolves to the correct confirmed dimensions, materials, care instructions and logistics information.
• Shared product values genuinely apply to this configuration.
• Where facts differ, the chosen record structure preserves the difference without relying on an ambiguous blank or unchecked default.
• Measurements use the agreed unit and refer to the correct assembled product, package or component.
• The approved source for each important fact can be traced.

The correct answer may come from connected product, variant and material records. It does not have to be duplicated onto the variant. In Furniture Connect, native dimensions are maintained on product records; current variant tools do not expose dimension overrides or explicit inheritance settings.

The failure condition is a missing or incorrect measurement, not the absence of a particular type of override.

Commercial data and availability

• The configuration resolves to the approved price and terms for the intended sale, or follows an explicitly permitted price-on-request process.
• Sale eligibility is understood separately from physical stock and production availability.
• Expected fulfillment timing is known where the customer or destination requires it.
• Currency, tax treatment, market, account and effective date are unambiguous where relevant.
• A discontinued configuration with approved sell-through stock is not confused with one that is fully withdrawn from sale.

A draft can legitimately remain unpriced when the agreed workflow allows it. That does not make it ready for a destination that requires a fixed selling price.

Media

• The selected imagery accurately represents the configuration.
• Each image suits its intended role: main product image, gallery view, material reference or finish reference.
• The crop, pixel dimensions and file format have been checked against the destination requirements.
• If an image is shared across configurations, its applicability has been confirmed.
• Image rights and approval status are clear for the intended use.

A visually misleading substitute does not pass merely because it is labeled temporary. Equally, an accurate shared image does not need to be replaced simply because it is not tagged exclusively to one variant.

A separate fabric swatch is only a release requirement where the destination or agreed product experience calls for one. "That variant lacks an accurate main product image" is a real gap; "that variant has no swatch" may not be.

Compliance and evidence

• The applicable requirements have been identified for the product, market and intended use.
• Evidence records are attached or reliably referenced.
• Their coverage is traceable to the exact models, configurations, batches and markets they support.
• The version, issuer, date and review or expiry information are available where relevant.
• An appropriately responsible reviewer has confirmed the evidence's scope and validity.

A named reviewer alone does not establish technical or legal compliance. The checklist records the business's review; it is not a certification.

Destination readiness

Before release

• The intended output contains the destination's required fields, identifiers, images and commercial values.
• Channel-specific content remains separate from shared product facts where appropriate.
• The selected variant, landing page and prepared output refer to the same item.
• No missing fact has been replaced with an unsupported guess.

When these checks pass, record the configuration as approved for submission.

After publication

• The submitted configuration displays correctly.
• Its link opens the intended product and selection.
• The expected price and availability are visible.
• The main image and supporting assets represent the item being sold.

Only then record live output verified. A prepared file cannot pass a post-publication check before it is live.

This checklist answers a narrower question: can this configuration be released for this purpose now?

The two tools can work together. Use the scorecard to find weak areas across a catalog. Use the release checklist to identify the exact SKU, requirement and evidence that still block a particular output.

Choose the most complex range in the next release and list every sellable configuration. Run each applicable check against the defined destination and market.

Group the failures by what is actually wrong: missing or incorrect measurements, unresolved prices, inaccurate main images, untraceable evidence or a destination output that has not been verified. That gives the team a release list it can act on without pretending every incomplete configuration needs the same fix.
