Most furniture teams do not have an image shortage. They have a certainty problem.
The images exist, but nobody can answer this quickly:
Which approved image shows this exact product, in this colorway and configuration, for the channel we are working on?
That is the job of furniture digital asset management. A furniture DAM keeps product imagery, swatches, documents and sales materials searchable and connected to the products they support.
The difficult part is not storing the file. It is preserving the relationship between the asset and the catalog.
A sofa may vary by size, configuration, orientation, fabric and leg finish. Each version may need a hero image, gallery images, a lifestyle scene, a swatch, a dimension diagram and sales documents.
Add a website, retailer portal, marketplace, print catalog and social campaign. The same master asset now has several crops or formats.
This is why the number of files grows faster than the number of products. The asset library has to express four things at once:
A folder tree can organize by only one of those at a time.
A disciplined shared drive can store images perfectly well. It cannot understand them.

A filename such as HENSLEY_3ST_PINK_OAK_HERO_FINAL-V3.jpg is an attempt to put product data, asset role and version history into a string. It works until the color name changes, two people use different abbreviations or someone creates another "final."
Storage answers "where is the file?" Asset management answers "what does it depict, and where does it belong?"
An asset linked only to the Hensley range may be shown against every Hensley option. That is a problem if it actually depicts the three-seat sofa in one fabric and one leg finish.
The asset should be linked to the most specific catalog record it represents:
This makes catalog coverage measurable. The team can find variants without an image and see which assets are available for a brief without opening folders one by one.

That is the product truth to keep: the asset remains connected to its catalog context. Do not turn that into a claim that every channel format, approval or accuracy check happens automatically.
"Eleven images" says very little. "One hero, four gallery images, one diagram and no images for 14 sellable colorways" gives the team a production brief.

The generated output still needs manual review. A person compares it with the approved product reference, checks silhouette, proportions, construction, material, finish and color, then approves, requests a change or rejects it. Linking an approved image to a specific variant also requires confirmation.
At minimum, record:
IPTC provides standard photo metadata fields for creators, rights information and digital source type. Its 2025.1 standard also added fields for the AI system and prompt information. GS1's Product Image Standard provides a cross-industry framework for product-image naming and storage.

A master asset may need a square crop for one destination, a transparent background for another and a high-resolution version for print.
Keep each derivative connected to its master and to the product it depicts. Also record the specification it was created to meet.
Furniture Connect does not silently decide the aspect ratio, crop or resolution required by every channel. The team needs to state the intended use and review the result. Google Merchant Center, for example, is moving to a 500 × 500 pixel minimum for product images from 31 January 2027 and recommends 1500 × 1500 or larger.
The point of the DAM is that a correction to the product or master image can be traced to the derivatives affected. It is not a promise that every downstream rule has been detected for you.

The strongest business case is not "less time searching." It is more of the catalog being properly represented: more colorways visible, more variants ready for a brief and fewer sellable products held back by disconnected imagery.

A fabric swatch links to the material, so every product using that fabric inherits it. A collection brochure links to the collection rather than a single SKU. That's what makes catalog coverage measurable.
When people regularly ask which image is current, the team can't list all variants without imagery, the same correction has to be made in several channel folders, swatches are copied into product folders instead of linked as materials, or nobody can say who approved an image or where it came from. The business case isn't less time searching — it's more of the catalog being properly represented.
