How Product, Marketing and Sales Should Hand Off a New Furniture Range

What product, marketing and sales should hand to one another during a furniture range launch, and when each handoff is ready.

How Product, Marketing and Sales Should Hand Off a New Furniture Range

Product has approved the new range. Marketing has started the brochure. Sales is already discussing it with buyers.

That overlap is normal. The problem starts when each team is working from a different version of the range.

A clean handoff does not require every function to wait for the previous one to finish. It requires clear inputs, statuses and change signals.

First handoff: product to the shared record

Product should make the approved range structure available in the shared record before downstream teams build from it.

That handoff includes:

  • Parent products and sellable variants
  • Stable internal SKUs
  • Approved materials, finishes and options
  • Current specifications
  • Provisional or approved commercial values, clearly labeled
  • Options that are still under review
  • Named owners for unresolved facts

"Final" should mean something specific. If dimensions can still change after the first production run, mark them provisional rather than presenting the whole record as locked.

Second handoff: product to marketing

Marketing needs accurate references, not only a product list.

For each product or priority variant, provide the source image or sample, approved material codes, useful specifications, the intended customer and the launch date. Make clear which colorways need their own assets and which can share product-level content.

Agree the visual approval route at this stage. When the Furniture Connect Agent generates or edits imagery using product references, its workflow includes a visual comparison of product presence, silhouette and proportions, material, finish and color. Identified mismatches or uncertainty are flagged for review. This check does not guarantee accuracy or replace a person's approval before use.

If a checked image could fill a variant's missing imagery, the Agent asks before saving it unless the user has already explicitly requested that save. Generating an image or adding it to a quote alone does not authorize saving it to the catalog.

Third handoff: marketing to sales

Sales needs a usable selling pack, not marketing's working folder.

Include:

  • Current product and variant list
  • Approved images attached to the correct SKU or colorway
  • Specifications buyers commonly ask for
  • Prices and effective dates
  • Launch timing and any embargo
  • Known exclusions or options not yet orderable
  • A route for questions and corrections

Avoid one unqualified "list price" if wholesale, direct and account-specific values differ. The rep needs to know which number applies to the conversation.

Fourth handoff: sales back to the catalog owner

Sales hears the questions that the product record failed to answer.

"Buyers had questions" is not actionable. "Three buyers asked for the clearance under the sideboard and the field is absent from the spec sheet" is.

Capture repeated questions against the product or range. Product can correct a fact; marketing can add a useful explanation; the content owner can make sure the improvement reaches the next channel output.

Keep one change route through the launch

Late changes will happen. Agree how they travel.

  1. The accountable owner approves the new value.
  2. The base product or variant record changes.
  3. Affected assets and channel versions are identified.
  4. Marketing and sales are notified with the exact product and effective date.
  5. Superseded documents are withdrawn or clearly marked.

Do not rely on a new attachment with "FINAL-2" in the filename to overtake every older copy.

Where Furniture Connect fits

Furniture Connect gives product, marketing and sales a connected catalog of products, variants, materials and assets. It can support range-wide content work and place images against specific quote lines and roles.

It does not remove the need for a lock point, an approver or a route for field feedback. The benefit is that the handoff can point to a maintained record instead of creating another static copy.

To test the process, follow one variant from product approval to its first buyer conversation. If sales cannot tell which specification and image were approved, the handoff is not complete.
