Can an AI Assistant Build Furniture Quotes From Live Catalog Data?
An AI assistant can build a draft furniture quote from catalog products and variants. See what it needs, how ambiguity is handled and where people stay in control.

Yes. An AI assistant connected to a maintained furniture catalog can turn a brief, floorplan or cost sheet into a draft quote. It can search for suitable products, resolve the sellable variants, place images against the relevant lines and prepare the output for review.
The writing is not the hard part. The hard part is knowing which chair, in which finish, at which approved price, belongs on the line.
When the starting point is a supplied cost sheet or schedule, its product names, quantities and selling prices remain the selection. Catalog matching should enrich confirmed matches rather than quietly substitute lookalikes.
What happens from brief to draft
Suppose the request is: "Quote 12 hotel rooms, with one armchair and one side table in each. Warm oak finishes."
The assistant has to:
- Interpret the quantities and room requirements.
- Search the available catalog rather than inventing products.
- Resolve a specific product and sellable variant for each line.
- Use the price supplied in the catalog or brief.
- Add the relevant product imagery in the correct quote role.
- Show the user what still needs attention before export.
An MCP connection lets an external assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude use the catalog and quote tools directly. The same workflow is available through the Furniture Connect Agent.[1]
What happens when the brief is unclear
The assistant should not always ask another question, and it should not always guess.
If the brief contains enough context to choose a relevant variant, it can make that choice and disclose it, along with sensible alternatives. If the ambiguity changes what can be supplied or what the client would receive, it should ask.
Furniture Connect's quote tools require a specific variant before a multi-variant product is added as a catalog-backed line. That prevents a generic parent product from standing in for the version being sold.
Missing price does not mean missing product
An unpriced product can still be added to the draft. The line is flagged so a person can supply the price before the quote is sent.
The Agent must not invent a price or use zero to make the warning disappear. A formula elsewhere in the catalog also does not automatically decide which price a quote should use. The business controls the commercial value selected for the customer.
What the catalog needs to hold
The assistant needs enough structure to distinguish one sellable version from another:
- A product and variant model that reflects the range.
- Prices or an explicit route for unresolved pricing.
- Dimensions and specifications at the level where they change.
- Imagery tied to the relevant product or variant.
- Current availability and lifecycle information.
Do not assume an archived product is automatically blocked from every quote. Check which records remain selectable and which selling routes need a separate update.
Not every configuration needs an existing photograph. The Agent can generate or edit missing variant imagery from product references. Its workflow includes a visual comparison of product presence, silhouette and proportions, material, finish and color before the result is surfaced. That is not a guarantee of accuracy or publication approval; a person still reviews it.
Saving a generated image to a catalog variant is a separate step from adding it to a quote. The Agent offers to save a checked result to the named variant, unless the request already asked for that save.
What a person still owns
The catalog may not know that a particular client has an agreed discount, that a lead time changed this morning or that a substitute was discussed on a call.
The salesperson therefore checks the selected products, variants, prices, quantities, terms and exceptions before sending. The assistant turns the maintained record into a workable draft; it does not become the commercial approver.
Furniture Connect and OrderWise
Furniture Connect Quotes can be built from catalog products and variants, with images placed against specific lines and roles. Quotes can be exported as PDF or XLSX.[1]
With OrderWise connected, eligible quote lines can be sent to a linked ERP customer through the quote's Send control. Updates, refreshes and cancellations remain user-triggered actions from the quote card. Once OrderWise reports the order as converted or canceled, the quote is frozen.[2]
That boundary matters. The Agent prepares and checks the quote; sending, updating or canceling the ERP order stays a user action.
A useful test before rollout
Take three recent quotes and mark every point where the rep left the catalog to find a price, image, dimension or available finish.
Those departures show what needs fixing first. The goal is not merely to produce the same PDF faster. It is to let more briefs be answered with the exact products, variants and assets the business can supply.
